Here in Silicon Valley there’s a long history of businesses developing massive campuses, or moving from building to building as the company expands or pivots. When companies take over a building or build a campus they tend to add “personal” touches to the space in the form of commissioned artwork, thoughtful landscaping, or other features meant to embody the work culture they are trying to promote.

Inevitably when those companies move or fail they abandon their previous buildings along with the artwork and thoughtful cultural touches they installed. When the next company comes along sometimes the artwork remains, sometimes it is replaced, and sometimes buildings sit empty for years and it is reclaimed by nature.

This project is an interactive map of photos I’ve taken of these abandoned corporate artworks and spaces in the Bay Area, grouped by the type of feature and annotated with a company name where possible.

High Resolution photographs are available on my 500px site. I’m always looking for other abandoned artwork to add to the map so if you know of any please let me know!
